Acute vs Chronic Stress Levels

Stress is a very subjective topic and is experienced differently by each individual. Stress itself is something we need to survive in the short term. This is "acute stress." It is when we live in a prolonged state of elevated stress, that this can have have many consequences to our long term health and well-being. This is called "chronic stress."


Here are a few signs you may be experiencing an escalation of stress levels. There are mental and emotional signs of stress including forgetfulness, poor concentration, anxiety, anger and depression. There are physical signs of stress that can include muscle tension, stomach problems, changes in sleep patterns and fatigue. Behavioral signs of stress can include disorganization, withdrawing from relationships or usual activities, or neglect of personal appearance. Does this sound like you?
